The Saturdays drop in for a chat with Ricky

The Saturdays have had a crazy couple of years since they first burst into the charts back in 2008.

Now they’re hoping to get their first UK number one with their latest single, Missing You.

Mollie and Rochelle dropped by to fill Ricky in on all the latest on their single and their new album.

They also spilled the beans on what it’s like being mates with JLS and McFly, and what they really think of shows like X Factor.

The Saturdays want to ‘rule the world’

The Saturdays say they could never compete with Girls Aloud as they weren’t “given millions of fans” overnight.

The girl band have been around for three years, and are tired of being compared to Girls Aloud. Both groups are known for producing catchy pop records, but The Saturdays insist that is where the similarity ends.

Girls Aloud – comprising Cheryl Cole, Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh – were formed on a UK talent programme, whereas The Saturdays were not.

“We can’t compete with Girls Aloud. How can we?” asked Rochelle Wiseman. “Although we’re on our eighth single we haven’t had millions of fans given to us overnight, we’ve had to work for it.”

Una Healy agreed: “We didn’t arrive on a TV show like Girls Aloud where everybody knew their names before they released a record. We were unknown, so it was harder.”

Girls Aloud are currently taking a break to concentrate on solo projects, and The Saturdays – Rochelle, Una, Mollie King, Frankie Sandford and Vanessa White – admit that has made things easier for them. They know more girl groups will come out in the future, but they hope it won’t be for some time yet.

“We want to rule the world, we don’t need anyone else,” laughed Frankie.
