The Saturdays want to ‘rule the world’
Aug 14th
The Saturdays say they could never compete with Girls Aloud as they weren’t “given millions of fans” overnight.
The girl band have been around for three years, and are tired of being compared to Girls Aloud. Both groups are known for producing catchy pop records, but The Saturdays insist that is where the similarity ends.
Girls Aloud – comprising Cheryl Cole, Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh – were formed on a UK talent programme, whereas The Saturdays were not.
“We can’t compete with Girls Aloud. How can we?” asked Rochelle Wiseman. “Although we’re on our eighth single we haven’t had millions of fans given to us overnight, we’ve had to work for it.”
Una Healy agreed: “We didn’t arrive on a TV show like Girls Aloud where everybody knew their names before they released a record. We were unknown, so it was harder.”
Girls Aloud are currently taking a break to concentrate on solo projects, and The Saturdays – Rochelle, Una, Mollie King, Frankie Sandford and Vanessa White – admit that has made things easier for them. They know more girl groups will come out in the future, but they hope it won’t be for some time yet.
“We want to rule the world, we don’t need anyone else,” laughed Frankie.

Saturdays ready to be Britain’s No1 group

GIRLS RECKONS PALS ACT CAN TAKE THEM RIGHT TO THE TOP
FLANKED by an entourage of tour managers and assistants, The Saturdays breeze into the building 30 minutes late. There’s a whirlwind of activity around them as they arrive in the plush oak-panelled dressing room where A-Listed is to meet them.
A cluster of champagne buckets and intricately-organised platters loaded with all kinds of finger food cover the nearby table.
But that’s ignored as they sweep through the door, chirping loudly on their mobile phones and giggling among themselves.
Right now, time is of the essence for The Saturdays.
In fact, their schedule is so hectic that just getting them all to sit in the same corner of one room is a minor miracle of time-management.
The girls – who head to Glasgow’s SECC on Saturday to join Alexandra Burke, Alesha Dixon and JLS on the whopping 18-act bill at In:Demand Live – are on the cusp of VERY big things.
Bring up Girls Aloud with The Saturdays, and they’ll politely but firmly try to steer the conversation elsewhere.
But there’s no doubt that with Cheryl, Nadine, Sarah, Nicola and Kimberley busy doing other things, it’s The Saturdays who look set to take control of the charts and install themselves as Britain’s new No.1 girl group.

Hodder & Stoughton has acquired book by platinum-selling pop group The Saturdays, on the back of success with titles by Girls Aloud and X-Factor runners up JLS.
Senior editor Fenella Bates signed world rights to the book via Robert Mackintosh and Jayne Collins at Maximum Artist Management. Hodder will publish in October 2010.
The Saturdays have sold more than 400,000 albums in their first year, and six top ten singles. The book will tell the individual stories of all five members of the band – Frankie, Vanessa, Una, Mollie and Rochelle – offering “personal insight into their lives before fame, life in the spotlight, their love interests and their strong friendships”. The title will also include fashion and beauty tips and backstage gossip.
Bates said: “We are thrilled to be working with The Saturdays. They are brilliant girls and brimming with ideas and enthusiasm for their book. It’s a young and vibrant addition to Hodder’s list and following the success of JLS and Girls Aloud, we’re hoping it will be the obvious gift for teenage girls next Christmas.”
Mackintosh and Collins applauded Bates’ “enthusiasm”, adding “the girls are very proud to be joining their elite list of artists”.
P.S. The girls want your help! They want to know what YOU want to see in the book, whether it be any unseen pictures, a chapter on a specific subject, such as maybe gossip from their ‘Work Tour 2009′. So if you want to tell them what you want to see in the book, then all you have to do is “tweet” them at their official twitter pages:
