Headlines Tour Review – Liverpool Philharmonic Hall – 5th February 2011

Review from music-news.com

All girl chart sensation The Saturdays visited Liverpool as part of their Headlines album tour. Stephanie Harrison went along for a girls night out…

2 x Tickets for The Saturdays – Yes Please! The perfect girls night out for my lovely cousin and I and the opportunity to interview their hot new supporting act Twenty Twenty.

Twenty Twenty are three nice boys: but would their music live up to the hype? Without a doubt, 5/5! Their enthusiasm, musical talent and passion for their dedicated fans shines through and had even sceptical audience members excited. A cool combination of McFly and Scouting for Girls with a rocky twist the band’s new single Love to Life (out on 3rd April) is infectious. Definitely one to watch!

The second support act 6D fused street dance and urban hip hop: an idea I found both appealing and fresh. 6D recently supported JLS on tour and are obviously an emerging talent but something felt missing. The group seemed a little nervous and uncollected and this made the audience nervous. Great idea, but not working in practice. 3/5.

Then for the main attraction. The Saturdays. The girls performed songs from all 3 albums and a fabulous Rihanna tribute and the audience went nuts. The atmosphere was electric with a real cross-range of audience all enjoying themselves immensely. With various costume changes, videos played between sets to mimic the TV series ‘The Saturdays 24/7’ which linked the sets nicely and avoided any audience unrest or unwanted intervals.

Personally, I was surprised at how many songs I knew and I think it’s easy to forget the width of contribution the band has made to the charts. The girls used a nice blend of acoustic numbers with Una accompanying on guitar and upbeat numbers with dance routines that every girl could join in with.

A good old fashioned evening of fun and an example of The Saturdays fever sweeping Britain. The girls have long careers ahead and are touring again in December to promote their new album. I’d recommend buying your tickets ASAP! 5/5!!!!
