H&S signs The Saturdays!

Hodder & Stoughton has acquired book by platinum-selling pop group The Saturdays, on the back of success with titles by Girls Aloud and X-Factor runners up JLS.

Senior editor Fenella Bates signed world rights to the book via Robert Mackintosh and Jayne Collins at Maximum Artist Management. Hodder will publish in October 2010.

The Saturdays have sold more than 400,000 albums in their first year, and six top ten singles. The book will tell the individual stories of all five members of the band – Frankie, Vanessa, Una, Mollie and Rochelle – offering “personal insight into their lives before fame, life in the spotlight, their love interests and their strong friendships”. The title will also include fashion and beauty tips and backstage gossip.

Bates said: “We are thrilled to be working with The Saturdays. They are brilliant girls and brimming with ideas and enthusiasm for their book. It’s a young and vibrant addition to Hodder’s list and following the success of JLS and Girls Aloud, we’re hoping it will be the obvious gift for teenage girls next Christmas.”

Mackintosh and Collins applauded Bates’ “enthusiasm”, adding “the girls are very proud to be joining their elite list of artists”.

P.S. The girls want your help! They want to know what YOU want to see in the book, whether it be any unseen pictures, a chapter on a specific subject, such as maybe gossip from their ‘Work Tour 2009’. So if you want to tell them what you want to see in the book, then all you have to do is “tweet” them at their official twitter pages:

The Saturdays set to sparkle at Forum Christmas party

Pop princesses Frankie Sandford, Mollie King, Una Healy, Rochelle Wiseman and Vanessa White are set to add some sparkle to the University of Hertfordshire Students’ Union Flirt Christmas Ball.

They will be appearing at the Forum on Friday, December 18 – the day before St Albans hardcore rockers Enter Shikari also play a festive homecoming gig at the College Lane venue.

The Saturdays have just released their second album Wordshaker and had four top 10 hits from their debut Chasing Lights, including Issues, Up and Comic Relief single Just Can’t Get Enough, a cover of the Depeche Mode classic.

“We’re very excited to have The Saturdays coming here,” said Rebecca Hobbs, the UHSU’s director of marketing.

The Saturdays is a student only gig, so tickets aren’t on sale to the general public.

But look out for a special Christmas competition in the Welwyn Hatfield Times next month for our readers to win two pairs of tickets to see The Saturdays at the Forum.

Saturdays want to take Subo Shopping

SEXY girlband The Saturdays want to give Susan Boyle a makeover – and last night offered to take her SHOPPING.

The chart-topping girls – who were at Glasgow’s Oran Mor venue – are dying to glam up the West Lothian star.

They were performing at Galaxy FM’s glitzy first birthday party.

They joined a star-studded line-up which included Taio Cruz, Pixie Lott and Mobo winners N-Dubz.

But the girls – who belted out hits I Just Can’t Get Enough and Issues – were more concerned about SuBo.

Saturdays’ babe Vanessa White, 20, said: “Susan could definitely hang out with us, we’d love to take her shopping. I know she’s back in Scotland after being in America, so I was hoping she’d call us to take her out.”

Taio, 24, got the party started with a short set which included new single No Other One.

He said: “I wish I could sing a lot more songs as this is a great party but they’re making me go.”

Hip hop stars N-Dubz made the bash after playing the city’s SECC, even though rapper Fazer had a cold. The 22-year-old said: “There is no alcohol for me tonight – that would mess me up even more.

“It’s a big enough challenge playing two gigs but I’ve taken some paracetamol.”

Fazer – and bandmates Tulisa and Dappy – have a soft spot for the city, after bagging two Mobos in September.

He added: “To win Best Album at the Mobos was special. We worked so hard and then Best Act was the icing on the cake with a cherry – and to do that in Glasgow means we’ll always remember the city.”

Meanwhile, Pixie Lott jetted into the bash from Los Angeles and sparkled in silver hot-pants.

The 18-year-old performed three songs – including Mama Do – and was flanked by a pair of gorgeous dancers.

Tipperary beauty Una Healy, from The Saturdays, has defended her band’s decision to play just two songs while in Dublin for a promotional gig last week.

The singer jetted into town with her bandmates for a much-hyped appearance at the launch of the new Xbox Lips at The Good Bits venue on Wednesday.

However, fans were left disappointed when the girls performed just two of their hit songs, generating negative press coverage the next day.

Flame-haired Una has since hit back, claiming that the group does not play more than two or three songs at promotional gigs, to ensure they sell-out tour dates.

According to the Thurles native: “The thing is when we do a show like that, it’s not an actual gig.

“If you come to our tour, we do an hour-and-a-half set, with the music, the dancing, the band and everything.

“But when we’re launching a product, it’s like a personal appearance.

“For example, when we played Childline we just did three tracks, the same as everyone else. That’s just the norm,” she added.

Una, who has shot to fame since joining the girl group three years ago, went on to explain how she tries to avoid reading press about the group.

Instead, the 28-year-old’s mum collects all the press clippings.

“When I go home at Christmas I’ll have to read them all.

“You shouldn’t really read all the press. It’s really nice to read the positive stuff but I don’t think you should focus too much on it.

“I think it’s better to just get on with what you’re doing,” she added.

Una has just bought a new house in London and is planning to move into the place with her rugby star boyfriend, Ben Foden, in January.
