YoungMinds Vs

Our very on Frankie is supporting the new campaign from YoungMinds. The YoungMinds Vs is hoping to highlight the growing problem of young people and issues with mental health.

Pop singer Frankie Sandford of girl group The Saturdays is pledging her support to YoungMinds Vs campaign, which is urging a mass movement of change in children and young people’s mental health.

Frankie is supporting YoungMinds biggest campaign to date which is led by young people and calling for change on the issues that young people said were of most importance to them.

Following a consultation with 3,500 young people about the issues that worried them  YoungMinds Vs will be campaigning on their top 5 concerns; bullying, sexual pressures, school stress, unemployment and lack of access to help.

Frankie Sandford said: “I get to talk to a lot of young people and I know there are so many who are really suffering and struggling with life.

“That’s why I really support the YoungMinds Vs campaign because it’s raising awareness of the importance of young people having good mental health and everything that can be done to make that happen, including young people getting access to help when they need it.

“I also think it’s great that the campaign is being led by young people – it’s all about their experiences and their voices are at the heart of it. That’s why this campaign is different from others and that’s why I support it,” she added.

Leader of the opposition Ed Miliband has also pledged to support YoungMinds Vs: “I’m delighted to help launch this important campaign.

“YoungMinds’ survey exposes some of the pressures children are under in Britain today, from bullying and sexualisation to worries about job prospects. And when they feel depressed, too many young people are afraid to speak out or find a lack of support when they do.

“Good mental health is essential for children to thrive and succeed. That’s why we must ensure all young people have access to the help and support they need, when they need it.

“Mental health is the biggest unaddressed health challenge of our age, and young people’s mental health must be a top priority for Britain,” he added.

The minister responsible for youth policy Nick Hurd is attending the launch of YoungMinds Vs which is also being backed by Paralympian Clare Harvey and Britain’s Got Talent finalist McNasty.

YoungMinds Vs campaign is funded by The Big Lottery Fund’s ‘Reaching Communities’ programme and Comic Relief.

The Saturdays launch 2013 Poppy Appeal

Last night our girls, along with some other music stars, launched the 2013 Poppy Appeal with a concert for armed forces families.

The even was organised by the Royal British Legion who hope the Poppy Appeal 2013 will manage to raise £37 million, for this  year’s focus – the families of Army, Royal Air Force and Navy personnel.

So make sure you go buy your poppy everyone!

The girls hit Alton Towers

You might remember all those many months ago when we announced that Frankie was to become a Mind Ambassador and alongside this a competition was created to spend the day with Frankie at Alton Towers? Well today was that day and a lucky few managed to spend the day with Frankie, Mollie and Vanessa at Alton Towers.

We do hope that the Mind Charity have got what they wanted from this day which was a key exposure for the charity and the good work they do for those suffering from mental illnesses such as depression which obviously our Frankie was treated for 🙂

National Lottery Anniversary Run

TNLAR_Finish.jpg

Hey all! As its still a tad quiet inbetween Mollie posting bikini pictures and Frankie’s baby shower, I’d thought I’d update you all on a little run me and Rosie did yesterday.

We both took part in the National Lottery Anniversary Run, which was the first official event to take place inside the London 2012 Olympic Stadium since the end of the Olympics last year. The run was 5 miles (8Km) around the London 2012 Olympic Site, finishing inside the Stadium in front of 20,000 odd people (and Little Mix!)

We both decided to run for two charities, one that you all know well – Dyslexia Action – and the Dyspraxia Association. On Saturday before the race, Mollie’s Mum, Sue, donated to our race, which was very kind and lovely of her, we thank her again on the site for her generosity.

We both completed the race in just under 1Hour 14mins. Which meant we ran each mile in just under 15mins – in the heat in central London – which although we both admit isn’t a staggering pace – this wasn’t a race about setting personal bests – although this is for both of us as its our first 5mile race – it was about raising money and awareness for charity! Hopefully we can both get an entry for the 2014 race and aim to finish under one hour.

To date we have raised £193! You can still donate online via JustGiving – if you can spare a couple of pounds, of even £1 we will be very grateful. You can donate no-matter where you live or what your currency is!

The Saturdays get cheeky!

the-saturdays-malteasers

Today British girl group The Saturdays announce they have joined Maltesers to encourage the nation to ‘let its lighter side out’ and help raise over £1million this Red Nose Day.

Maltesers is a proud partner of Red Nose Day for a second time, and will donate 5p from every special pack sold straight to Comic Relief. It is hoped that the pop princesses will inspire others to get involved and help Maltesers to reach their target of at least £1million for Comic Relief.

The Saturdays have been letting their lighter sides out by taking part in a range of Maltesers Cheeky Challenges. From picking up Maltesers using a pair of chopsticks, to taking part in a singing competition where the five stars battled it out to be the last girl balancing Maltesers on their tongue whilst ‘singing’ at the same time (the first person to chew is the loser!) – the challenges left the girls in fits of giggles from doing something funny for money.

The Saturdays-member, Mollie King, said:

Everyone needs to let their lighter side out once in a while. We had so much fun trying out the Maltesers Cheeky Challenges – the girls all tease me for being a bit competitive but my desire to win paid off when I was victorious! You don’t have to do a big challenge to be involved – just get a packet of Maltesers and try some Cheeky Challenges with your friends and family, and help Maltesers smash the £1million target!

The girls are on This Morning today (or a feature is on This Morning today) to discuss this! Video incoming!

Frankie Sandford, Mind Ambassador

Win a day out with Frankie!

Today our very own Frankie Sandford has been announced as a new Mind Ambassador and to celebrate, she’s launching an exciting new competition! As many of you are aware Frankie came out to the media to talk about her fight with depression, anxiety and panic attacks and to raise awareness about it.  Frankie is using her public status as the member of The Saturdays to create a much needed awareness of these problems, and to make sure that everyone knows that they don’t need to fight these things alone thanks to the wonderful work by Mind. The support that Frankie received from her family, friends and indeed us as The Saturdays fans made a huge difference to her. It’s important that people don’t suffer in silence and get the help and support that they really need.  So make sure you help Frankie spread the word about mental health, enter Mind’s competition and tell all your friends! Competition you say? Well here is Frankie herself to explain!

To celebrate this occasion Mind are teaming up with Prizeo, for a chance for YOU and THREE of your friends to spend the day with our very own Frankie at Alton Towers! Seriously how awesome is that? For your chance to win you simply visit the Prizeo site http://www.prizeo.com/frankie to enter. The competition runs from today (18th January) to 11th February. Entries cost £1, you are entitled to enter as often as you want to – please note that all entrants must be 16 or over.

Good Luck to all those entering and remember to help Frankie and spread the word by sharing it with everyone you know on Twitter and Facebook! You can also find out more from the Mind website or by visiting @MindCharity and http://www.facebook.com/mindforbettermentalhealth
