With Girls Aloud away, The Saturdays are the UK’s top girl band. The foxy fivesome look set to rack up another Top 10 with new single Ego, out today. Mollie, 22, and Frankie, Vanessa and Rochelle, all 20, offered to guest edit today while Una, 28, and I still nurse our New Year heads.

We find it funny because we didn’t do it on purpose to get more attention.

We’re five young girls who like to feel sexy. It just so happens that our new stylist likes us to look like that as well.

We played it safe before because people didn’t really know us, but now we’re taking more risks.

It’s like what Cheryl Cole said to Kandy Rain on X Factor and it’s the same with every girlband – you’re allowed to venture out a bit more as you get down the line.

We’re not sure how many other girls will be squeezing into miniscule dresses, though, because now Girls Aloud and Sugababes are returning with new albums this year there doesn’t seem space for anyone else.

No-one had followed in their footsteps for a while and luckily we were the first, so we think we’ve played our part in making girl bands popular. Talking of our labelmates Girls Aloud, it looks like we’re going to release an album a year like they did.

Most bands disappear in the studio for a couple of months and just concentrate on their new album.

We’d love to do that but it’s dead important to still be around. It means album three will be tough because we’d like to take time out this year to focus on it so we can write more of our own tracks.

We’d planned to do that with Wordshaker but because things were going so well we wanted to get it out quickly. We wrote the track called Deeper and all of our B-sides, so we’re definitely taking a step in the right direction.

We’ll soon be going to Germany and Asia as we want to be a band that gigs everywhere.

But don’t worry, we won’t be away for too long. We’d hate to miss out on what’s happening in Britain because we still feel like there’s lots left to do.

Now we’ve become more established, everything’s stepping up. The videos, styling and songs have all got better.

We can’t wait for what the future has in store for The Saturdays.

THE SATURDAYS REVEAL:

We don’t feel famous. If it’s a day off, then we feel no-one will recognise us. But we are getting more attention from the paparazzi.

You have to think of things you’d never normally consider – like how you get out of a car.

And they get quite aggressive, which is scary.

They pushed a friend of Frankie’s on the bonnet of her car once when he tried to protect her. It’s not nice.

The Saturdays have revealed that they will find it “tough” making a third album.

The five-piece insisted that they want to release a new record every year, but are struggling to find the time in their schedule to write music.

“Most bands disappear in the studio for a couple of months and just concentrate on their new album,” the group told the Daily Star.

“We’d love to do that but it’s dead important to still be around. It means album three will be tough because we’d like to take time out this year to focus on it so we can write more of our own tracks.”

The band, who release new single ‘Ego’ today, admitted that they wanted more time to pen their own material on current album Wordshaker.

“We’d planned to do that with Wordshaker but because things were going so well we wanted to get it out quickly,” they said. “We wrote the track called ‘Deeper’ and all of our B-sides, so we’re definitely taking a step in the right direction.”

The Saturdays star Mollie King says her New Year’s resolution is to “eat more fruit”.

The singer – who is joined in the girl group by Una Healy, Frankie Sandford, Vanessa White and Rochelle Wiseman – plans to get healthy in 2010 starting with her diet.

She said: “My resolution is to eat more fruit and be on time once in a while.”

Mollie isn’t the only member of The Saturdays to make a healthy New Year’s resolution.

Vanessa said: “My main resolution is to go to the gym, although I’m not sure it will work!”

Mollie, 22, is still coming to terms with what a successful 2009 the band had.

She said: “Going on tour was great and having our fans see us was a dream come true.”

Vanessa White set for classical reality TV show?

Kym Marsh (Pic:GreenAlpha)It’s not their aria of expertise… but that won’t stop eight pop acts bidding for opera stardom.

Corrie’s Kym Marsh is already clearing her throat in readiness for ITV1’s new classical reality show, Popstar to Operastar.

Blur’s Alex James, Bernie Nolan, McFly’s Danny Jones, ex-Pop Idol star Darius Danesh, Shakespeare’s Sister’s Marcella Detroit, Jimmy Osmond and Vanessa White from girl band The Saturdays complete the line-up.

The artists will be trained to perform world-famous opera songs – with many singing in a different language for the first time. Welsh singing sensation Katherine Jenkins will mentor the stars, along with famed tenor Rolando Villazon.

And then – in a bizarre twist – they will be judged on their weekly efforts by rock legend Meat Loaf and makeover king and Classic FM DJ Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen.

A source said: “Thanks to Paul Potts, Rhydian and Il Divo, classical music is at the top of the charts.

“But can just anyone turn into a tremendous tenor or stunning soprano?”

Blur bassist James has five No1 albums under his belt, the Nolan sisters have sold more than 25 million records and McFly had seven No1 singles and two No1 albums.

Little Jimmy Osmond sold more than 100 million records with his siblings and is also a platinum-selling solo artist. Darius’s debut single and album went in at No1, Kym’s former band Hear’Say also had a chart-topping album and Marcella topped the hit parade for eight weeks with Shakespeare’s Sister’s hit Stay.

White’s band have enjoyed five top 10 singles since their debut in 2008.

Myleene Klass and Alan Titchmarsh will host the show, which  kicks off on ITV1 on January 15.
